TAUPO
Taupo, an inland town 290 km from Auckland, four to five hours drive north from Wellington, a population of 13,000, sitting on the shores of Lake Taupo (the largest lake in New Zealand with an area of 620 square kilometres). Taupo is centrally located in New Zealand's Thermal area. The Wairakei and Geyser Valleys encompass extensive thermal activities - geysers, boiling cauldrons, steam vents and boiling mud pools. The lake is renowned for trout fishing, principally rainbow trout. Fishing equipment can be hired and short-term fishing licences can be obtained through the town's sports goods stores.
Numerous hotels and motels provide hot bathing pools of relaxing and exhilarating thermal waters.
Other attractions and facilities available in the Taupo area are sightseeing trips, boats, sailing, horseback riding, tramping, hunting trips, skiing, golf, tennis, shopping and numerous first class dining facilities.
The home logbook for visitors makes for very interesting reading and usually contains tips on restaurants, shops and activities to watch out for.
DIALYSIS
If you plan to use the haemodialysis machine, the Society now requires that you forward, to the Booking Officer, a statement signed by your Renal physician/nurse that you are trained and competent on the AK96. These letters expire annually.
Dialysis is by use of a Gambro AK96 machine.
The following dialysis supplies are available:
- Jug
- Bucket and mop
- Scales
- Torch
- Drip stand (in the first bedroom cupboard)
Patients are required to provide their own supplies for haemodialysis and C.A.P.D.
Sealed bags of dialysis rubbish MUST be taken to the Taupo Hospital for disposal. This is a standing arrangement for WRKS.
For your own safety, it is suggested that you bleach and rinse the machine before using. We do ask that you complete a full monthly machine service, leaving the machine rinsed with bleach and flushed with water before departure.
You will also be required to do a clean cart clean before use of the machine. Instructions for this are hanging from the machine and are also available on p. 108 in the manual provided.
If anything should happen to the machine while you are using it, ring the Nurse On Call at the Home Dialysis Training Unit through the Wellington Hospital on: 027 2448 611. Also please contact the Bookings Officer so the Technician can arrange to fix it before the next people come to stay if necessary.
